Of POV and nightmares

POV is what my latest nightmares have conjured to keep things interesting. I realized a couple of days ago that I desperately needed a refresher course on POV (okay, more like a bucket of ice cold water!) so I've been reading different books from different authors to see what they're doing and take note.

Ironically, I have found it a challenge to take a step back from the stories and focus on the techniques. I tend to disappear into whichever world the author has created and forget about the learning opportunities that present themselves. Needless to say, it is proving to be an enriching experience that I am positive will reflect in my writing.

  1. Hi JO

I see you're relatively new to blogging. Welcome. Hope you have many hours of practice, putting your thoughts out their for your peers.

    It's great daily practice.

  2. I understand about getting lost, JoJo. Used paperbacks and highlighters work great.

  3. I have to second what Carmen said. Sometimes, I have to walk away from the manuscript for a whole month to get the thing out of my head. Then go back to edit it. Try to put some distance between you and the work, Jojo. Work on or read something else for a week or two--be it yours or someone else's--and see if that helps?

  4. Thanks for your comments! I've actually been doing a lot reading lately. Both books to see how other writers do it and also books about POV. I'm learning incredible stuff and I'm happy with the progress I'm making. Your suggestions are appreciated. Thanks again.
